Normalcy returns to walled city in Jaipur

Jaipur, Dec 1: Normalcy has returned to the walled city here today after a group of minority community clashed with the police turning the situation tense.

The minority community pelted stones at the police which forced them to lob tear gas shells to disperse the irate crowd in city's Ramganj Bazaar yesterday.

The minority community alleged that police had taken one Anwar Hussain into custody and tortured him physically for a scuffle with BJP youth leader Bharat Sharma over parking issue near ICICI bank on November 17. Hussain is supposed to have fired at Sharma on November 27.

The police had taken Hussain into custody on Wednesday and is supposed to have tortured him both physically and mentally.

Hussain's relatives freed him from police and admitted him to city's Sawai Mansingh Hospital. But Hussain managed to escape from the hospital while he was being taken for an x-ray.

The minority group shutdown the Ramganj Bazaar yesterday in protest and clashed with the police. A large contingent of police were deployed in the area.

According to police, the situation is normal in Ramganj Bazaar today and the markets are open. As a precautionary measure, Rajasthan Armed Constabulary and Special Task Force team are still deployed in the region.
