National womn's boxing begins from Dec 17

Visakhapatnam, Dec 1 (UNI) The Visakhapatnam District Amateur Boxing Association General Secretary G V Ravi Raju today said the seventh national women boxing championship would be held here under the aegis of the Andhra Pradesh Amateur Boxing Association from December 17-21.

Briefing the media here, he said the event would see in action 300 women boxers from all the states and union territories. Hosts Andhra Pradesh and Vizag Port would participate.

The Visakhapatnam District Amateur Boxing Association was spending Rs 19 lakh on the five-day event. City national champion Usha would be given Rs 7.5 lakh cheque by Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhra Reddy.

Later, District Sports Development Officer N Surya Rao released the logo of the championship and Visakhapatnam Port Chairman K Ratna Kishore felicitated Usha, who won a silver medal in the fourth world women's boxing championship at New Delhi recently.
