Narayana Murthy stresses on innovation mantra

Bangalore, Dec 1 (UNI) Infosys Technologies Chief Mentor N R Narayana Murthy today opined that innovation cannot be achieved unless an organisation created a pluralistic, intellectually curious and competitive environment.

Delivering keynote address at the inaugural of the International Conference on 'Managing Technology Innovation in IT, organised by the Institute of Engineering and Technology here, he said organisations aiming at innovation should have an environment of openness, where people were optimistic, confident, daring and had a conducive atmosphere to work as a team.

The IT czar said that to remain ahead in business and deliver better to clients, a successful organisation would approach innovation in a systematic manner. ''They create organisational structures and management processing to nurture innovation.'' Mr Murthy said an organisation should pursue management and technological innovation in tandem. For technological innovation to become a competitive advantage, innovative management practice should support them. Referring to Toyota, he said the success of the company was in its technological innovation due to its innovative management practice of harnessing the intellect of its frontline employees.

''A good vision will attract rich talent towards an organisation.

Successful organisations are those which combine a great vision with a strong operational capability, resulting in higher growth and higher profitability,'' he said.

Mr Murthy said Infosys, which pioneered the global delivery model to leverage talent and infrastructure in different parts of the world, was based on collaborative distributed development of software.

He said Infosys extended its capacity for innovation across the company's businesses as it believed that innovation had become a hard reality. ''We ensure that there is innovation in everything we do in all departments where human resources are deployed, including software development, marketing and at the delivery end,'' he added.
