Lucknow, Dec 1 (UNI) In a bid to present the state government view on the existing law and order situation in Uttar Pradesh, Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav today met governor T V Rajeswar.

The Raj Bhawan and the state government had been at loggerheads since governor Rajeswar observed that some policemen played a partisan role during the just-concluded Urban Local bodies elections. Hours after the governor made these observations at the Police Day parade here a few days ago, the CM asked the Raj Bhawan to follow certain decorum.

Later, the ruling Samajwadi Party also demanded the removal of the governor to ensure free and fair assembly elections in the state slated early next year.

The Raj Bhawan sources here said it was a courtesy call and two had a one-to-one conversation for about 20 minutes.

The meeting of Mr Yadav with the governor is said to be a significant political development in the recent past as both the democratic and constitutional heads were at loggerheads over several issues including, law and order.

The CM during his brief meeting also explained the support of 21 MLAs to his government before the governor besides explaing his remarks on the ''role of Raj Bhawan.

The meeting also gains importance as the Mulayam Singh government had already suggested the Election Commission to hold assembly polls in February. The EC on other hand has hinted a delay in holding the elections.

Recently, Mr Yadav openly criticised the governor after he raised the issue of bad law and order during his speech on the Police day parade and later asking the assembly speaker Mata Prasad Pandey to clarify about the status of the 21 MLAs of the BJP, BSP, Congress and others who had given their support to the government in writing before him.
