Bhopal, Dec 1 (UNI) HIV/AIDS awareness programmes and rallies marked World AIDS Day in Madhya Pradesh with Governor Balram Jakhar inaugurating a State AIDS Control Committee programme here.

Universities' vice-chancellors and 600 National Cadet Corps cadets took part in that programme. The cadets also took out a rally.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Jakhar said, ''awareness is the secret of protection. The youth should lead controlled lives.'' State Health Minister Ajay Vishnoi felt that AIDS control efforts would succeed only if every social segment was involved in them.

The Governor flagged off a Jan Chetna Rally that was organised by the Centre's Information and Broadcasting Ministry's Directorate of Field Publicity and witnessed participation by more than 3,000 school children carrying posters, banners and placards.
