MoUs worth Rs 11,067cr signed at IT Summit

Ahmedabad, Dec 1 (UNI) Nineteen Memorandum of Understandings (MoUs) worth Rs 11,067 crore and two MoUs for HR development were signed today at the Vibrant Gujarat IT Summit 2006 here.

Inaugurating the Summit Chief Minister Narendra Modi said ''Today is a very important day for me and I consider it as such for Gujarat's path to progress.'' The CM was attended by NASSCOM president Kiran Karnik, Tata Consultancy Services CEO S Ramadorai, Satyam Computers chairman Ramalinga Raju among others.

Gujarat has shown tremendous growth in all sectors. Yet when IT is discussed, there was a question mark. Of course, we missed the IT bus in the 90s. After today's event people will say in 2010, If you do not want to miss the IT bus, go to Gujarat!'' Mr Modi added.

As far as impetus to IT growth is concerned ''my state is open -minded and open-hearted. We are moving at high speed in this sector. All things cannot be done by the government. My mantra is 'sarkari' and 'asarkar'. It means minimum government, maximum governance,'' the Chief Minister said.

''I strongly believe that government should only act as a catalystic agent. State should have a consistent approach which is only possible when the state is policy-driven. It will also lead to less interpretation, maximum transparency and no hassles. This would be of great help to entrepreneurs who can then take their own decision. Gujarat is a policy-driven state,'' Mr Modi said.

Calling people's opinion as of paramount importance, he also announced that the Gujarat government would come up with an urban development policy, on which suggestions from people would be invited.

Mr Modi also said there was no lack of human resources in Gujarat and stressed that the youth power in Gujarat should be used properly by 'entrepreneurs', persons with skills and capable of giving better output.
