Jammu, Dec 1 (UNI) A designated TADA and Pota Court of Jammu and Kashmir has acquitted a militant who was facing trial in a grenade explosion case in Udhampur district on May 9, 2004.

Presiding Officer of TADA/POTA/3rd Additional Sessions Court, Jammu, N D Wani yesterday acquitted Mohammad Arfan in blast at Sailan Talab Matador Stand in Udhampur along with accused Mohd Shafiq, who was booked under section 512 CrPC and declared absconder.

According to the prosecution, the accused exploded grenade causing serious injuries to few persons. A case under section 307 RPC 7/25 Arms Act and 3 PSS Act was registered.

The Judge, in the acquittal judgement after hearing both the sides, observed the evidence produced so far was sufficient to convict the accused.

''There is not even an iota of evidence that accused made disclosure to the effect that he concealed a grenade in the bushes, which police alleges to have recovered. Therefore, the court is acquitting the accused,'' the judge said.
