Maoists gun down youth in Malkangiri

Malkangiri, Dec 01 (UNI) A person was shot dead by the Maoists today near MV 23 village, about 33 kms from here, suspecting him as police informer.

Police said the Maoists attacked the 28-year-old Sadananda Jena and shot him. His body was found during the wee hours today near the MV 23 village.

Sadananda was a petition writer and his wife was a constable with the Malkangiri police station. His brother was serving as home guard in Kalimela Police station and father as forest guard, Police said.

The Maoists had dropped a letter near the deceased body, which stated that he was gunned down as they suspected him as one of the police informer, police said The police further informed that Sadananda's fingers were also chopped off by the Maoists.

Sadananda is the third victim of the Maoists in the district during the last two months.

Earlier, the Maoist had killed a village headman Kartik Ray on October 13 and shot dead a trader Bandhu Behera on October 30 at Korakunda village in the district suspecting them as police informers.

The left wing ultras had warned that all the police informers in the area would meet the same fate.

Soon after, senior police officials rushed to the trouble spot and started an intensive combing operation to flush out the Maoists from the area.
