Manjeet Singh's kidnapping trial stayed by HC
Mumbai, Dec 1 (UNI) The Bombay High Court today stayed the trial of Manjeet Singh Sethi, former President of Dance Bar Owners Association, accused in a kidnapping case.
Justice S C Dharmadhikari stayed the trial until December 5 when the case will come up before him for the next hearing.
Sethi's lawyer Hasanali Mooman filed an application before the High court claiming that the sessions court hearing the case was not conducting the trial properly and the proceedings should be stayed.
Sethi and his son Vivek Sethi are accused of abducting a man from near the City Civil Court on January 6, 1997, and taking him to an abandoned garage, where they robbed him of Rs 50,000, assaulted him and subsequently released him.
Sethi, who earlier faced a breach of privilege motion from the Maharashtra Assembly and was sentenced to 90 days imprisonment, faces a maximum punishment of life imprisonment if convicted in the case.
