LS, RS adjourned on statue desecration issue
New Delhi, Dec 1 (UNI) Parliament was today adjourned till 1130 hrs on the issue of desecration of Babasaheb Ambedkar's statue at Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh which had led to violence in Mumbai in Maharashtra.
The matter was raised in both the Houses by BSP members and supported by the Congress which demanded the dismissal of the SP-led Uttar Pradesh government, saying that the vandalism was carried out at the instance of the state government.
Lok Sabha Deputy Speaker Charanjit Singh Atwal, who was in the Chair, said certain portions of the speech would be expunged when the SP party members opposed the allegations levelled against their Government.
The matter was raised in the Lok Sabha by BSP member Brejesh Pathak.
In the Rajya Sabha, the matter was raised by BSP President Mayawati. As soon as the House assembled to transact the day's business, BSP members were on their feet, demanding suspension of the question hour and dismissal of the Mulayam Singh Yadav Government.
