K'taka Govt official sentenced to 3 yrs RI
Bangalore, Dec 1 (UNI) A lower court in Dharwad has convicted and sentenced a Head Draftsman in the Karnataka Town Planning department to three years rigorous imprisonment for taking a bribe of Rs 5,000 to show official favour.
The Principal District and Sessions Court also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on Kadappa B Chalawadi under various sections of CrPC and the Prevention of Corruption Act, yesterday. Besides, the court imposed two years RI and a fine of Rs 5,000 on other charges.
A Karnataka Lok Ayukta release here said Mr Chalawadi, working in Dharwad division, was caught red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000 in 1997 for issuing a No Objection Certificate for the conversion of agricultural land.
