Srinagar, Dec 1 (UNI) The Jammu and Kashmir Vigilance Organisation today produced a charge-sheet against an official of the agriculture department for misappropriation of sale proceeds.

A vigilance spokesman said the organisation produced a charge- sheet against Mushtaq Ahmed Jan, the then agriculture assistant (Inputs) at Beerwah in Badgam district, in the court of Special Judge Anti Corruption, Kashmir, for misappropriation of over Rs 22.55 lakh between 1995 and 1998.

The Vigilance Organisation had received complaints alleging that the accused had misappropriated a large sum of government money received by him on account of sale proceeds of agriculture inputs during the period from 1995 to 1998, he added.

During the course of investigations, it was revealed that the accused was in-charge of his sub-division to arrange and supply agricultural inputs to various outlets in the area, he said.

Scrutiny of the records revealed that the accused had received sale proceed of seeds, pesticides and other agricultural inputs costing Rs 50.51 lakh during the period, the spokesman added.

The amount was required to be deposited in the state treasury.

However, the official deposited only Rs 27.96 lakh and the balance of Rs 22.55 lakh was misappropriated by him by fabricating records and preparing fake receipts of the treasury, he added.

He said the forgery has been established during the examination of the relevant documents and evidence by forensic expert.
