IT dept seizes gold ornaments

Chennai, Dec 1 (UNI) Income tax department officials today seized gold ornaments weighing about 12 kgs from two air passengers who arrived from Mumbai by a Jet Airways flight at the airport here.

According to official sources, acting on a tip-off, the IT department officials intercepted the passengers Deva Sri Kumar (45) and his associate and effected the seizure worth about Rs 1 crore.

During the interrogation, they told the officials that they used to take orders from various jewellers in the city and brought them gold ornaments.

However, they did not have any accounts for the purchase of gold.
