Indian Air Force drub Indian Airlines 4-1
Lucknow, Dec 1 (UNI) The Formidable Indian Airlines (IA) Delhi team was drubbed by the Indian Air Force (IAF) 4-1 in the ongoing 27th All India K D SIngh Babu Memorial hockey championship here today.
In the other matches during day, western Railway. Mumbai beat Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) by a solitary goal, while the Sports Authority of India (SAI) won against the West Central Railway from Jabalpur in a one sided encounter at 7-0.
In the last match, the South Central Railway (SCR), Sikandrabad defeated Punjab State Electricity Board (PSCB), Patiala 2-0.
In the opening match between IA and IAF, the later took the lead in the very beginning of the match through a penalty corner conversion by Balbir Singh in the 7th minute and just two minutes later, Sanwar consolidated the lead (2-0).
The IA team retailiated in the 22nd minute with Jayant netting a the Penlaty corner goal to reduce the tally 1-2.
However, in the second half of the game, the IAF scored two more goals to seal the fate in their favour.
In the second match, W R Mumbai entered into the next round beating ONGC 1-0 in a hard fought match. Both teams remained goalless till 70 minutes encounter and the all important goal came in the third minute of extra time play through a field goal by Hardeep Singh.
The third match between SAI and Jabalpur team remained a one sided encounter. The former slammed 7 goals against any by rivals, while in the last match, Patiala bowed down 2-0 before SCR team. The first goal for the winners was scored by Amit Kumar in the first half and the final goal came in the second half through K K Bharat.
