Ganganagar, Hanumangarh farmers demand merger into Punjab
Sriganganagar, Dec 1 (UNI) The agitation by the farmers, for more irrigation water in Ganganagar and Hanumangarh districts, has taken a new turn with the communists demanding merger of the area into with Punjab.
Farmer leaders announced a major campaign drive for this particular demand at a recent press conference held at Hanumangarh district headquarters.
Kisan Sangharsh Samiti leaders like Surendra Pilania, CPM Chananram Verma, former Congress district chief Rajendra Kajla and others said they have no alternatives left but to raise the demand for assimilation into Punjab as the government is continuously ignoring their rightful demands for water.
They allege that the government is not at all concerned about the welfare of the farmers of the region and is instead constantly blaming Punjab for water problems.
They said Punjab decides about the quantam of irrigation water for the farmers of Ganganagar and Hanumangarh, so instead of waiting anxiously for their approval each year, they want to assimilate themselves into Punjab.
The farmers will soon organise a meeting and write to the Prime Minister and the President about the issue.
