Kohima International Film Festival begins tomo

Kohima, Dec 1: Altogether 60 films, including documentary, short and animation films will be screened at the first Kohima International Film Festival to be held here at the State Academy Hall from December two to six.

This coincides with the Hornbill Festival, showcasing the rich cultural, economical and social life of Nagaland, which begins today. According to official sources here today the festival will be inaugurated by Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio tomorrow, which is being organized by the Film Division, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India with active participation of Department of Tourism, Department of Art and Culture and Department of Information and Public Relation of Government of Nagaland, Doordarshan and Media Units of Ministry of Information and Broadcasting like Press Information Bureau and DAVP.

Film Division, apart from making films on various subjects all over the country, has contributed immensely for the promotion of Documentary, Short and Animation films through its biennial Mumbai International Film Festival (MIFF) for Documentary, Short and Animation films since 1990 and has attracted the best documentary, short fiction and animation films from all over the world.

Nearly 40 countries participated in every edition of MIFF.

Probably, this is the only documentary film festival offering a whopping amount of Rs. 27.50 lakhs as the total prize money and around 500 films are screened in various categories during the festival.
