Elaborate arrangements in place for Chamundeswari bypoll

Mysore, Dec 1 (UNI) The district administration has made elaborate arrangements, including security, for the byelection to the Chamundeswari Assembly constituency on December four.

Deputy Commissioner and District Election Officer S Selva Kumar told newspersons here today that the constituency has 346 polling booths, of which 209 have been classified as hyper-sensitive and 129 as sensitive. Only eight booths have been categorised under the normal category. In all, 1,384 officials have been deputed on poll duty.

He said authorities have collected Rs 5,39,219 from various parties for providing places for publicity and fine of Rs 54,727 towards violation and as many as 53 cases have been booked against various parties. So far, 133 vehicles of different parties have been seized alongwith nearly 1,070 litres of illegal liquor.

Mr Kumar said that of the seven companies of paramilitary forces deployed for the bypoll, three would be used in the taluk areas and the rest on the city outskirts.

He said that when the campaign comes to an end tomorrow evening, except voters and candidates, all those who had come for campaigning, including the leaders of political parties, would not be allowed to stay in the constituency.

In a separate press conference here, city police Commissioner S Praveen Sood said nearly six to ten police personnel would be deputed on each polling booth, while 24 mobile squads with a sub inspector and 15 inspectors each would be pressed into service.

About 20 KSRP platoons have been deployed and 4,000 police personnel would be on duty.

He said the law and order situation in the constituency was completly normal.
