Dandi and Danda are the same for Trinamool: Biman Bose

Kolkata, Dec 01 (UNI) "Dandi" and "Danda" are synonymous to the Trinamool Congress for the party does not know the difference between satyagraha and violence, CPI (M) state secretary Biman Bose said ridiculing today's opposition-sponsored bandh.

Mr Basu's comment came a week after Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee organised a "Singur Dandi March" to the proposed site for the Tatas' small car project in Hooghly district.

The march was given the name after Mahatma Gandhi's famous Padayatra to Dandi in Gujarat as part of his non-cooperation movement against the British rulers. All those who took part in Ms.Banerjee's march carried sticks emulating Gandhiji.

Defending the police action in obstructing Ms Banerjee from entering Singur yesterday, Mr Bose said the administration had done the right thing. The opposition party also did not maintain their role in the state assembly, Mr Bose said during a CD inauguration programme of the IPTA at neighbouring Howrah district.

He also said those elected as MLAs of the opposition party were not capable of holding their posts.

''That Mamata Banerjee took a copy of the constitution to Singur yesterday spoke of the fact that she knew that section 144 Cr PC had been imposed there,'' Mr Bose said, adding she had no knowledge of the constitution.

He also alleged that CPI (M) worker Pranoy Das was killed at Karandighi by stone-pelting Trinamool supporters.
