Curfew reimposed in Pimpri-Chinchwad

Pune, Dec 1 (UNI) Curfew was reimposed in Pimpri-Chinchwad as sporadic incidents of violence continued to disturb normal life in the industrial township.

The township has been rocked by violence for the last two days in protest againt the desecration of Dr B R Ambedkar's statue in Kanpur.

Police today resorted to lathicharge at Kalewadi in Chinchwad area to disperse a violent mob which was pelting stones and setting afire private establishments. However, the situation is under control police said, adding that the district administration brought in additional company of Rapid Action Force (RAF) since yesterday.

Meanwhile, State Irrigation Minister Ajit Pawar, who is also the district Guardian Minister, visited the affected areas and has called for a meeting with Dalit leaders during the day.
