Curfew in Aurangabad, Osmanabad, Nanded and Hingoli in M'wada

Aurangabad, Maharashtra, Dec 1 (UNI) Curfew was today clamped in Osmanabad, Nanded, Hingoli and the divisional headquarter Aurangabad in Marathwada region, as a precautionary measure in the backdrop of the continuing violence by dalit groups over desecration of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar's statue at Kanpur.

Authorities imposed curfew in Aurangabad from 2000 hrs till 0600 hrs tomorrow, City Police Chief Uddhav Kamble said here late tonight.

Curfew was reimposed in Osmanabad from 2000 hrs till 0600 hrs tomorrow after relaxation in the curfew since 0800 hrs today.

The situation in Osmanabad showed a marked improvement during the day, where two persons were killed yesterday, one of them in police firing and another in a scuffle.

Authorities have imposed curfew in Hingoli till midnight tonight, and a review to possibly extend the curfew would be taken late tonight, police sources at Hingoli control room told UNI.

In Nanded, curfew continued in troubled areas from Rajbar corner to Vajirabad, which falls under the jurisdiction of three police stations--Bhagyanagar, Shivajinagar and Vajirabad.

The curfew was lifted in the remaining areas of the city, including the bus stand, railway station and New Nanded, police sources said.

Barring few incidents of arson and stone- pelting, situation in the remaining four district towns of the Marathwada including Beed, Parbhani, Jalna and Latur was peaceful, police sources added.
