Child puzzle vexes cops!

Badwani, MP, Dec 1 (UNI) A 35-year-old tribal who gave birth to a son in this district's Sendhwa town has abandoned the infant at the doorstep of another tribal woman in the same locality while alleging that the child was conceived following rape by the woman's husband.

The case has even stunned the police who are attempting to solve it by obtaining DNA samples of the three persons involved.

Sendhwa (Rural) Police Station sources said that the boy was born late last night and abandoned at Surya Bai's doorstep whose husband Mukhi was accused of rape. The victim Savitri Bai's husband is in prison for the past one-and-a-half years and she resides with her parents-in-laws and brother-in-law. She was already a mother of two.

Mukhi described the allegation as baseless. Interestingly, Savitri Bai did not lodge any police complaint following the rape.

The police tried hard to convince Savitri to retain the baby until parentage was sorted out but she was adamant on not even touching the kid.

The Sub-Divisional Officer (Revenue) ordered that the infant be shifted to the district hospital.
