Air Marshal Rajkumar to head Andaman and Nicobar Command
Port Blair, Dec 1 (UNI) Air Marshal Packiam Paul Rajkumar, who saw action during India's peacekeeping operations in Sri Lanka in 1988-89, will take charge as commander-in-chief of the Andaman and Nicobar Command tomorrow.
He will replace incumbent Vice Admiral A.K. Singh, ANC sources said here this evening.
Graduated from the National Defence Academy, Khadakwasla, in 1967 and commissioned in the Indian Air Force in 1969, Air Marshal Rajkumar commanded an MI-8 Helicopter unit (which was part of the Indian Peace Keeping Force in Sri Lanka).
The Andaman and Nicobar Command, which came into being in 2001, is an operational unified tri-command which is being used to monitor and counter-military and terrorist activities in the Bay of Bengal and the adjoining waters.
