64 BOPs to open along Indo-Bangla border with Tripura

Agartala, Dec 1 (UNI) About 64 new Border Outposts (BOPs) will be opened along the Indo-Bangladesh border with Tripura to check and curb the illegal activities and infiltration.

Talking to newspersons here on the occasion of BSF's 42nd raising day yesterday, the forace's Inspector General P K Sebastian said the proposal for the BOPs have been sanctioned for the state to check criminal activities on the border's sensitive points.

A Frontier Headquarter established at Silchar on November 1 would cover Cachar and Mizoram Frontier. Earlier it was known as Tripura, Cachar and Mizoram Frontier (TCM), sources said.

About 12 smugglers have been killed and 21 militants apprehended during the last 11 months by the BSF, sources added.

Besides, BSF had seized smuggled goods worth Rs 69,85,930 and apprehended 1,617 infiltrators. Of the arrested, 872 were Bangladeshi nationals, the IG said.

BSF has also recovered ten fire arms including three AK 47 rifles, nine AK 47 magazines and other ammunition, he added.

About 18 hardcore militants of the state including National Liberation Front of Tripura and All Tripura Tiger Force (ATTF) have surrendered before the Para-Military Force during this year, sources said.

Besides, the BSF had carried out a number of civic action welfare projects for the people residing in these border areas of the state, sources added.
