Yuva unique prog to help adolescent in their overall development

New Delhi, Nov 30 (UNI) Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit today exhorted teachers and parents to suitably answer queries raised by the adolescent youth which will help in their all round development.

She said this while launching Yuva school Like Skills Programme (SLP) at a function organised at Talkatora Indoor Stadium here. The comprehensive revised three volumes of SLP included ten core skills -- self-awareness, empathy, critical thinking, creative thinking, decision making, problem solving, effective communication, interpersonal relationship, coping with stress and emotions.

The programme had been revised on the basis of feedback received during last one year. The Yuva SLP sought to make learning joyful, meaningful and interesting, equipping students with skills required to be responsible, productive, healthy and happy citizens.

Delhi Education Minister Arvinder Singh Lovely presided over the function.

The original Yuva school adolescence education programme launched in 2005 had been experimented in schools throughout Delhi and up to 55,000 teachers, principals and officers had been trained under it.

It incorporated CALtoonz (learning through multimedia), education of self-defence, yoga, meditation, laughter, reading, cultural activities, language development, skills, how to cope with stress and tension, improving academic excellence and adolescence education.

Ms Dikshit while appreciating achievements of the Education Department said, ''our concerted efforts have resulted in 13 per cent increase in enrolment and better board results.'' Mr Lovely said dropout rate in Delhi had gone down from 19.72 in 2003-04 to 5.92 per cent in 2005-06. He added that 1,20,000 more children were now studying in schools today compared to last year.

A cultural programme was also presented on the occasion where Educationist Prof Yashpal was present.
