'Yatra' premiered at IFFI, Rekha's absence disappoints fans

Panaji, Nov 30 (UNI) Gautam Ghosh, director of the Rekha-Nana Patekar starrrer 'Yatra', today described the film as the story of his own journey as an artiste.

"It may very well be the story of many of us," he said at the premier of the film at the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) here.

"Yatra is basically a celebrated writer's journey, both external and internal, it is about love and passion, passion for life and art," he said.

It is a multi-layered film. A writer, working on his new novel, travels from one place to another. Once he meets a co-passenger, a filmmaker who admires his work, and feels the subject could make for an interesting film. So he is conceiving the film visually, he said.

Thus there are two layers in the film-- the visualisation of the filmmaker and imagination of the writer. This also brings the dichotomy between fact and fiction.

"I belong to a tradition that was idealistic, as compared to the hard core reality of today," Mr Ghosh said. "Both have their charm and contradictions too," he said.

Producer of the film Bipin Kumar Vohra was also present on the occasion.

Actress Rekha had been invited for the premier but her absence disappointed many of her fans.
