Violence continues over Ambedkar issue in Nashik

Nashik, Nov 30 (UNI) To protest against the desecration of bust of Dr B R Aambedkar at Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday, marauding groups of agitators continued violence here for the second day today as they tried to torch a bus at Amber Nagar and pelted stones at passing vehicles and business establishments.

Police have arrested three people in connection with the killing of Rangnath Shankar Dhale, 26, who was beaten to death by a mob in Nashik Road area yesterday.

At least 25 buses, which included five government buses, were vandalised and two them were torched yesteday. The district transport authorities estimated the loss at around Rs 30 lakh.

Meanwhile, Republican Party of India gave a ''bandh'' call, following which an uneasy curfew-like situation prevailed in the town.

All shops and business establishements were closed and police and its anti-riot squads have been placed at all senstive areas of the town, particularly in and around Nashik Road which witnessed the maximum violence yesterday.

The administration is also keeping a close watch in view of funeral of Dhale today.

Situation in the communally senstive town of Malegaon was also tense after overnight incidents of stone-throwing at Sargmeshwar and Mosam bridge areas of the textile town.

Manmad was, however, peaceful when the last report came in.
