New Delhi, Nov 30 (UNI) A security personnel deployed at the Parliament annexe left his service weapon unattended, leading to the bomb scare in Parliament.

Informed sources said that the police, called to undertake search operations within the complex following the discovery, were still carrying out searches in the premises following the incident.

However, there was nothing to panic about, they added.

However, Joint Commissioner (VVIP Security, Parliament) Ms Kanwaljit Deol, contended that that the incident was a ''security drill'' but declined to say anything on questions about the unattended weapon.

Earlier official sources had denied the bomb scare reports of the media claiming that things were 'normal' in the Parliament premises and staff was asked to vacate to facilitate search operations in Library building of the complex. The official clarification came in the wake of media reports claiming an unclaimed baggage had been found in the Parliament's Library building.

Sources said things were normal and none of the staff was asked to vacate the building for the search operation as claimed by a tv news channel.
