TN Cong lauds UPA Govt's decision to reduce petro prices

Chennai, Nov 30 (UNI) The Congress in Tamil Nadu today welcomed the United Progressive Alliance(UPA) Government's decision to reduce the Petrol and diesel prices in the country.

In a statement here, TNCC President M Krishnaswamy said the rollback in prices followed an appeal made by AICC President and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi in the wake of reduction in the prices of crude oil in the International market.

This showed that the UPA Government was committed to the welfare of the people, especially the poor, he added.

Stating that inflation could be pegged at five per cent following the reduction in petrol prices, Mr Krishnaswamy said it would also control price rise benefitting the poor.

He said one barrel of crude oil, which stood at 26 dollars during the previous BJP-led NDA regime, went up to 75 dollars in August and came down to 56 dollars at present.
