SC stays Sethi's arrest till further orders
New Delhi, Nov 30 (UNI) The Supreme Court today stayed till further orders the arrest of former president of the Maharashtra Bar Girls Association, Manjit Singh Sethi.
A bench comprising Justices B N Agrawal and P P Naolekar granted interim relief to the petitioner and stayed the arrest order issued against him by the state assembly.
Sethi had appealed against Bombay High Court Order rejecting his petition challenging the order of Maharashtra State Legislative Assembly which had ordered his arrest for making derogatory references against state politicians.
Sethi was to be produced before the assembly in custody for receiving punishment.
A petition filed by Maharashtra Bar Girls Association challenging a Bombay High Court judgment is pending in the Supreme Court against the Bombay High Court order which had upheld the ban imposed by the state government on dance bar on the grounds that these dance bars spread corruption and encouraged flesh trade in the state.
