Ahmedabad, Nov 30 (UNI) Mohd Saleem, a Member of Parliament, today denied reports that the Centre had announced a compensation package of Rs seven lakh for the victims of the Gujarat riots.

He said, ''The Parliament is in Session, the government has made no such announcement, so who is giving the compensation?'' Mr Saleem, of the CPI-M, who was part of a delegation that visited the riot-affected areas of the city, was speaking at a press conference.

Accusing Chief Minister Narendra Modi of ''indulging in reactionary politics'', he said Mr Modi was calling the Centre names, based on media reports.

The reports on the Centre's announcement had provoked the Chief Minister to react strongly. Describing it as ''double standards'', he had said if the Centre was really serious, he would take the issue to the people and ''expose its agenda''.
