Private sector opposed to reservation in jobs

New Delhi, Nov 30 (UNI) The private sector broadly accepts the desirability of affirmative action on the issue of reservation in jobs, though it is opposed to the concept of reservation as prevailing in the Government, the Lok Sabha was told today.

Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment Meira Kumar said in a written answer that as a part of government's dialogue with industry, the Group of Minsters held extensive discussions with the Chambers and Federations of industries.

She said the industry had reiterated its support for voluntary affrmative action with a thrust on enhancing employability of the SC and ST candidates. A multi-pronged strategy with PPP model was being advocated through support to selected schools, vocational training measures, scholarships, skill and enterpreneurship development among others .

He said the Associations were also in favour of preparing their own Code of Conduct on Affirmative Action and evolving their monitoring mechanisms to ensure observance by the members.
