Srinagar, Nov 30 (UNI) The nights in the Kashmir valley were cold as the minimum temperature dipped to several degrees below normal with icy winds due to snowfall on upper reaches while the days remained hotter because of bright sunshine.

A weather office spokesman told UNI that the minimum temperature in the Kashmir valley was minus 2.9 degrees, which was two degrees below normal.

He said normally during this period of the season, the temperature used to be between one degree to minus one degree during the nights which is being considered normal. However, for the past two days the minimum temperature was recorded below normal resulting in cold during the nights.

However, he said, the days are hotter because of bright sunshine.

The maximum temperature yesterday was two degrees above normal.

Meanwhile, a massive operation was going on to recover the body of a teacher who was buried under a snow avalanche at Zero point on the Srinagar-Leh national highway on November 25.
