New Delhi, Nov 30 (UNI) Vanasthali Public school, a senior secondary school located in Madhu Vihar, today fell under sealing scanner of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) which put to seal 99 commercial units in Shahdara (South), and Rohini zones.

The MCD this evening sealed the Vanasthali Senior Secondary Public school on Madhu Vihar road, running on the government land for the last many years, Deputy Commissioner, Shahdara (South) J P Aggarwal said.

The school had a strength of about 2500 students. The sealing of the school was part of the directions of the Supreme Court which had, in its recent judgement, stipulated that the schools built on encroached land could be sealed.

Mr Aggarwal informed that the MCD team had gone to seal the school yesterday. But, its management had got a stay order from the Delhi High Court. However, the Monitoring Committee today observed that the school was built on DDA land. Since, it was a case of encroachment on public land, it was covered by the judgement of the Supreme Court. The orders of the Supreme Court could not be superceded, it observed and, therefore, directed the school to be sealed.

72 other properties were also sealed on Vikas Marg, Shakarpur road (School Block) and Pandav Nagar in Shahdara (South) Zone, Mr Aggarwal said.

The major properties sealed included VLCC, Hotel Shipra, East Inn Guest House, A&M Communication call centre, Skin and Shape Beauty Parlor, Shiva Motors, Reliance Web and Hero Honda Showroom.

In Rohini Zone, eight properties were sealed while in South Zone 18 properties were sealed at Jhandu Singh Marg&Arjun Nagar T-Point to Aurobindo Marg.

A MCD spokesperson said the MCD carried out the above sealing operations for various reasons such as inclusion of the commercial units in the negative list, not filing intimation letter regarding stoppage of misuse within the stipulated date and functioning despite giving intimation letter.

With today's sealing, the total number of properties sealed since the drive resumed on November 8 on the orders of the Supreme Court was come to 2270.

Meanwhile, the traders have questioned the sealing of business establishments operating in DDA flats. The Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) has also taken up the issue with the Union Minister of State for Urban Development Ajay Maken.

In wake of the sealing in DDA flats, non inclusion of A and B colonies in notified areas and fate of traders dealing with negative list, CAIT today declared to intensify its agitation against sealing.
