Maintain peace and harmony in the state: Deshmukh
Mumbai, Nov 30 (UNI) Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh today condemned the desecration of the statue of Dr B R Ambedkar at Kanpur and appealed to the people to maintain peace and harmony in the state.
Condemning the incident at Kanpur yesterday, which triggered violence in some parts of the state, the Chief Minister said '' I can understand the feeling of the Dalit community. But it is my appeal to the people of the state not to adopt path of violence and maintain peace and harmony.'' Mr Deshmukh said Maharashtra is one of the progressive states in the country and violence affects the poor and commonman the most.
''Join hands with law and order enforcing authority in maintaining law and order,'' he said.
The Chief Minister also appealed to media, especially electronic media to avoid showing footage of incidents which might provoke the of the people.
