Maharashtra rocked by large-scale violence

Mumbai, Nov 30 (UNI) Three persons were killed and several others injured as large-scale violence and arson erupted in parts of Maharashtra today over the desecration of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar's statue in Kanpur, forcing the authorities to clamp curfew in Nanded, Osmanabad, parts of Pune and the adjoining Pimpri-Chinchwad belt.

Rampaging RPI activists went berserk, torching seven coaches of the Pune-bound Deccan Queen at Ulhasnagar in Thane district after asking the passengers to alight this afternoon and also burnt some bogies of a suburban Central Railway local near Ulhasnagar.

Several parts of the metropolis and adjoining Thane district witnessed rasta-rokos, heavy stone-pelting, burning of scores of vehicles including state and municipal-run buses by the dalit groups who indulged in mindless orgy of violence. Pune, Kolhapur, Aurangabad, Nanded and Nasik were also hit by mob fury.
