LS congratulates Indian pugilists

New Delhi, Nov 30 (UNI) The Lok Sabha today congratulated three women pugilists -- Jenny R L, Lekha K C and Sarita Devi -- who won gold medals in the recently-held World Women Boxing Championship here.

After the question hour, Speaker Somnath Chatterjee said he had congratulated yesterday M C Mary Kom on her achievement in winning a gold medal in the championship.

"There are three other women pugilists from the country who also had won gold medals in the same championship," he said, adding that the achievements of these enterprising sportswomen had brought laurels to the country.

The House plunged into laughter when the Chair said, "We are proud of our boxers and not cricketers." He, however, later said he would like to convey the House's best wishes to the Indian cricket team.

"I am sure they will play well," he said .
