Inter-caste incentive to be increased to Rs 50,000
New Delhi, Nov 30 (UNI) Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment Meira Kumar today informed the Lok Sabha that the Government was planning to substantially increase the incentive given for intercaste marriage to Rs 50,000.
She said it is aimed at eradicating untouchability and ushering an era of social justice in the country as it would encourage marriages between castes.
Presently, this incentive amount varies between Rs 2000 to Rs 50,000 in sixteen States.
She said of the total incentive amount, the Union Government would provide 50 per cent by way of central assistance.
