Indian flag hoisted in Athletes' Village
Doha, Nov 30 (UNI) Amid the strains of national anthem and in the presence of the Indian sportspersons, the tri-colour was hoisted at the Athletes' Village in the 15th Asian Games here today.
The Mayor of the village welcomed the Indian contingent and sportspersons, including tennis sensation Sania Mirza, were present when the flag was unfurled.
Several athletes and officials, including Chef-de-Mission Ramlal Thakur, were also present on the occasion.
Later, talking to the media, Indian Olympic Association President Suresh Kalmadi exuded confidence that the contingent would do well in the Games.
'' We would definitely put up a better show and return with a better medal haul. We will be banking on our shooters to fire on all cylinders, while the contingent also includes promising athletes who are capable of making their mark in the Games,'' he said.
''Delhi will be hosting the 2010 Commonwealth Games and we are bidding for the 2014 Asian Games. This would be a good perform for the athletes to show that they can match the best when it comes to Asian Games,'' he added.
