Guntupalli Wagon Workshop gaining prominence: Official

Vijayawada, Nov 30 (UNI) Guntupalli Wagon Workshop is one of the premier workshops of the Indian Railways and the second best among the 13 workshops in the country in repair of wagons and wheels, and bearings manufacture, according to its General Manager D Balaram.

Addressing mediapersons here Mr Balaram said 300 wagons were being repaired a month last year and the target for this year had been fixed at 600 wagons a month.

Steps would be taken to make it the largest workshop in the country. The Railways would be spending Rs 23 crore on its expansion and modernisation.

The workshop had carried out several innovations and fabricated machines, gadgets and fixtures for streamlining production process and improving the productivity.

It also repaired about 25,000 wheels and 10,000 LB springs annually and undertaken repair work on wagons and wheels owned by the NTPC and other companies.

Mr Singh also said old and useful oil tankers were converted into fly ash wagons at a cost of Rs 60,000.

This enabled the mechanised handling of fly ash at the Vijayawada Thermal Power Station.
