Excise dept destroys opium plants worth Rs 18 lakh

Agartala, Nov 30 (UNI) The Tripura police today said the Excise department has destroyed about Rs 18 lakh worth illegal opium plants under Teliamura police station in West district.

Police sources here said a team of Excise officials along with police raided the Baralunga village areas under Teliamura and destroyed the illegally cultivated opium plants yesterday.

Meanwhile, in another raid in North District, the Kumarghat police recovered goods worth more than Rs five lakhs from the station area recently.

They also conducted special raids near the station areas and recovered illegal electronic goods, dress, wooden logs and utensils, brought through trains without paying income tax, sources said.
