CPI's nation-wide protest against price rise from Dec 7

Lucknow Nov 30 (UNI) The Communist Party of India (CPI) will organise a four-day national-wide protest against price rise from December 7 to 10.

Party national council member Atul Kumar 'Anjaan' today said the faulty government policies had led to the hoarding of foodgrains.

''Even, the Public Distribution System (PDS) has collapsed.'' ''Not only food prices, but medicine prices have also sky-rocketted because the market has been taken over by MNCs.'' The price rise in essential commodities, particularly edible oil, pulses and sugar is unprecedented and is causing immense distress to the common man.

''The inflation rate is much higher than what the government statistics reveal because the calculation is based on wholesale price index,'' he alleged.

He added in order to hold prices and curb inflation, government must immediately bring an end to hoarding and black marketing of all essential commodities, stop food advance by banks, carry out adequate procurement so that PDS can be maintained, and stop forward trading in foodgrains.

''In order to control inflation, agricultural production must be increased,' he suggested.
