CPI registers two point increase in October

Shimla, Nov 30 (UNI) All India Consumer Price Index Number for Industrial Workers (CPI-IW), on base 2001-100, increased by two points during October to stand at 127, sources in the Labour Bureau today said.

The index recorded an increase of seven points in Giridih Centre, by six points in Rangapara Tezpur, five points each in Agra and Siliguri, four points each in Raniganj and Kanpur, three points in 12 centres, two points in Jalpaiguri and one point each in 219 centres during the month.

The sources said the index decreased by one point in Jalpaiguri centre, while remaining stationary in 15 other centres.

The increase of seven points in Giridih centre was due to the rise in the prices of rice, mustard oil, milk, onion, vegetables and fruit items, soft coke, barber charges and tailoring charges, the sources said.

The decrease of one point in Jalpaiguri centre was due to a fall in the prices of rice, green chillies and sugar.

The index number in respect of Mumbai stood at 131, followed by 128 points at Bangalore, 127 points each at Ahmedabad and Kolkata and 119 points at Chennai, the sources added.
