BJP mulls national movement on BHU-RSS issue

Varanasi, Nov 30 (UNI) Ten days after the Banaras Hindu University (BHU) served notices to four of its senior teachers seeking explanation over their attendance at a RSS seminar, the BJP is mulling to launch a national movement from ''Sadak to Sansad'' over the issue.

The top leadership of the party including National President Rajnath Singh and former Union HRD Minister Murli Manohar Joshi discussed the matter at length with the district level RSS functionaries at a hotel here last night, Uttar Pradesh BJP (Intellectual Cell) Vice-President and senior BHU faculty Prof Kaushal Kishore Mishra told UNI here today.

''The RSS functionaries discussed the matter with Mr Singh who termed the BHU notice as 'intellectual terrorism' and assured the party is thinking seriously of launching a national movement over the issue.

''The national movement will be a kind of ideological war which will span from the streets to the Parliament,'' both Dr Joshi and Mr Singh told the fuming RSS functionaries.

Dr Joshi went to the extent of saying ''hum is sarkar ki is mudde par 'eent (brick) se eent' baja denge,'' Prof Mishra claimed.

The BJP president also confided the BHU Vice-Chancellor Panjab Singh had called him up in Mumbai and top RSS leadership in Nagpur recently to urge them not to launch any movement over the issue. But he recieved negative response from both sides.

The closed door meeting was also attended by Rajya Sabha MP Kalraj Mishra and Varanasi Mayor Kaushalendra Singh.

''With the green signal on for going proactively over the issue the district BJP will soon join the RSS in the movement alongwith BJYM and ABVP,'' Prof Mishra added.

Meanwhile, the Shikshak Mahasangh supported by RSS continued its indefinite evening dharna over the issue near the Malviya statue outside the BHU main gate for the third day today.

The BHU administration had on November 20/21 last served a notice to four teachers seeking an explanation within 15 days over their participation at an RSS seminar here on November 11.

Citing violation of Central Civil Services (Conduct) Rules 1964, the varsity had warned of disciplinary action if they failed to submit their explanation within the stipulated 15 days.
