Nagpur, Nov 30 (UNI) Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) spokesman Sanjay Nirupam today alleged that the activists of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) were involved in the recent killing of four members of a dalit family in Khairlanji in Bhandara district in Vidarbha region.

Speaking to reporters here, Mr Nirupam said as per the preliminary information of the police and a fact-finding team of the All India Congress Committee (AICC) that visited Khairlanji, BJP activists had instigated villagers to attack the dalit family. The BJP activists 'may also have' participated in the actual murders, he alleged.

Mr Nirupam said his allegation was based on information that he had obtained from the police as well as the AICC fact-finding team that visited Khairlanji.

The BJP was resorting to 'politics of caste' in the by-election to the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly from Chimur and had unleashed a 'vicious campaign' to provoke the people in the constituency, Mr Nirupam alleged.

Mr Nirupam was in Nagpur on his way to Chimur for electioneering.
