BHEL to augment power generation

Tiruchirapalli, Nov 30 (UNI) Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has invested Rs 1,200 crore during the X Five Year Plan to augment power generation capacity to 10,000 MW by end 2007, a top official has said.

Disclosing this to newsmen, BHEL General Manager S M Mahajan the company to further enhance the capacity to 13,000 MW before the end of the XI Plan at an investment of Rs 3,200 crore.

With orders to the tune of Rs 40,000 crore for the next two years, BHEL is keen on enhancing its manufacturing capacity by 15 per cent.

Separate blocks were being established at the existing units to cater to the increasing orders.

BHEL expects to have orders for 500 MW turbines once the linkages for natural uranium and heavy water fuels for nuclear power plants were ready.

Efforts were on to enhance generation capacity of nuclear power plant equipment to 700 MW and thermal turbines to 800 MW, he added.
