Battery car for disabled at Central Station
Chennai, Nov 30 (UNI) Southern Railway (SR) General Manager Thomas Varghese today formally inaugurated the country's first battery operated car for physically challenged persons at the Central Railway Station here.
Talking to newsmepersons, Mr Varghese claimed SR introduced the car, donated by a Bangalore-based Non Governmental Organisation (NGO).
Costing Rs four lakh, the car had been introduced on an experimental basis and if proved successful, the Railways would make available more such cars at Central and Egmore Stations, he added.
The car will pick up physically challenged persons and drop them before the compartment, Mr Varghese said.
