Unidentified men rob valuables worth Rs 8.5 lakh

Rajkot, Nov 29 (UNI) Four unidentified armed men allegedly robbed valuables worth about Rs 8.5 lakh from the three employees of an Angadia (courier) firm near Chordi, about 40 km from here, last night.

Gondal police today said the incident took place at about 2215 hrs last night near Chordi on the Gondal-Jetpur highway in the running state transport bus, which was proceeding to Rajkot from Diu.

Four unidentifed persons, speaking broken Hindi, boarded the bus at Junagadh. They threatned the three employees to hand over the valuables at gun point. When the couriers resisted, the robbers allegedly fired three rounds in the air from a country-made revolver.

No one was injured in the firing incident, but it damaged the windowpanes of the bus. The robbers looted gold, silver, cash and imitation jewellery valued at about Rs 8.5 lakh from the three employees, police said.

The robbers then got down and fled under the cover of darkness after committing the crime. The bus conductor lodged a police complaint with them early this morning, police said and added further investigations are on.
