Two police officers granted bail in a bribe case

Mumbai, Nov 29 (UNI) A special Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) court today granted bail to two police officers arrested for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000 from an undertrial, while he was in police custody.

Additional Session Court Judge P N Deshmukh granted bail to Suspended Police Inspector Prasant Yashwant Pandit and PSI Jagdish Babu Giri of N M Joshi Marg Police station on a bond of Rs 20,000 each. The court also directed them to attend the police station till December 8 and thereafter as and when required by the investigating officers.

Immediately after granting judicial custody on last Monday they had moved a bail application.

The ACB sleuths had allegedly caught the duo red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000 from an undertrial while in police custody. The undertrial Ravikumar Gutti had been implicated in a cheating, conspiracy and criminal breach of trust case.

Police officers had allegedly demanded bribe of Rs 50,000 from the accused for his release but the amount was later reduced to Rs 20,000 after negotiations.
