Terrorist threats loom large on AP Coast

Visakhapatnam, Nov 29 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Director General of Police (DGP) Swaranjit Sen today said the terrorist threats were looming large on the state coast and steps were taken to strengthen the security measures, focusing on marine police stations.

Mr Sen took stock of the situation arising out of the threat perception to the defence establishments and several oil sector PSUs and suggested steps to prevent any possible terrorist attack.

According to sources here, the meeting was organised, following intelligence reports of threat to the seaport, Eastern Naval Command, Hindustan Petroleum Corporataion Limited and other public sector units.

The meeting also deliberted on the strategic importance of Oil and Natural Gas Corporataion and its wells in the Krishna-Godavari basin.

Srikakulam district police superintendent Manish Kumar Sinha said the security has been tightneed at Etcherla, Laveru, Ranasthalam, Ponduru and S Sigadam mandals to avoid violence in the ensuing bypoll to the Bobbili Lok Sabha Constituency. So far 180 problematic villages have been identified by the police and adequate forces would be deployed on December 4.

Mr Sinha said Railway Protection Force(RPF) would assist the local police in maintainng law and order during the byelection.
