Speaker lauds DRDO's feat
New Delhi, Nov 29 (UNI) Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee today made two references as soon as the House assembled for transacting the day's business.
Mr Chatterjee said it was a matter of great pride that India's defence capability achieved a new milestone on November 27, 2006 when the DRDO successfully carried out a surface to surface missle interception over Bay of Bengal off the Orissa coast. This was the first ever interception test conducted by the DRDO using two live missiles. With this breakthrough, India has acquired anti-missle capablity, he added.
''I think the House should join me in congratulating all the scientists and technicians associated with this feat.'' The Speaker then lauded M C Mary for winning a gold medal in the recently-concluded World Women Boxing Championship.
He said her feat would inspire the budding sportswomen of the country.
